A-1-6 > BW_New_5-3: (Note from Bill Wendover 6/27/08) SFC Finnis Dawson McCleery (TX). This is a picture of Sgt. Mc getting a haircut at LZ Gator. To this day I wonder what the barber found to cut? This was taken just before deployment North to Lo Giang. 1st Plt Sgt Robert Van Horn had recently been detached to the Chu Lai training center for replacements. With the Horn temporarily gone it was great to have Sgt. Mc assigned to 1st plt., A Co.through the infusion program. I had to infuse a lot of good men that had been in our unit for a long time. In this instance we got back as good as we lost. Sgt Mc was first 3rd squad leader then acting Plt Sgt. When Van Horn showed up out of nowhere on the battle field at Lo Giang he took a round in the knee and we lost him Sgt. Mc stepped right in as permanet Plt Sgt. After I rotated to a Bn job Sgt. Mc was quite often the Plt. Leader. as well.

A-1-6 > BW-92: Jim Fontana and supply SSG Hans Raasch (Hey Hans, ever locate Alan Allen's SK semi automatic carbine, SN 10087742 ?) O.K. ,the rest of the sk-44 story. AA had a perfect rifle in this sk not a mark on it. In late Sept. 68 the 1-6 Bn. decided to have a farwell get together of the full year cadere guys that were still in country. We were told that LTC Baxley would be coming down from Amer. Div. to attend the event. What a perfect time to present LTC Baxley with a momento of our appreication for his great leadership. AA sk was mounted as a trophy on a backing with all the unit mottos and insignias, etc. and was present tp LTC Baxley. Hans protests did no good, the sk was now a trophry but in the wrong hands.. When this story was related to AA in Bufffalo at the reunion I asked couldn't he have just as easily bought one here at home and being the good old Texas boy that he is he replied "Hell no that one was free".

A-1-6 > BW-74 Harry Thompson at basecamp. None of the document in that file cabinet made it to the National Archives. Few documents from the 1/6th BN made it to the Archives and most of those were from 1971 & 72. There are some records from the 198th LIB and many at the Americal Division level, which report on the Gunfighters at a very, very high level.

Providing death and destruction 24 hrs. a day Chu L:ai Viet Nam.These guys flew close air support for A Co. all year. To the right in the Middle is 1st Lt. William G Livingston who took over S-4 after serving with D Co, I believe he replaced Cpt. Leinen when he became A Co. Commander
