A-1-6 > BW-07: upper left, Vic Girling (MN), up front, SGT Darrel N. Ackerman (OR), and center right, Joseph "Doc" Picarelli (NJ) - KIA 5/15/68. Girling was our NCO FO from 1/14th Arty, and spent 18 months in the field with Co. A. Thanks to Bill Wendover for the caption update!
A-1-6 > Page 1: Lt. William 'Bill' Wendover, Platoon Leader for 1st Platoon, gave Alan Allen a copy of these orders awarding the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB) to a group from Company A. He evidently used the two pages to tally up what had happened to the original members of his 1st Platoon. At the top he wrote, '35 arrived in-country, 17 wounded, 2 killed' (Pumillo and Stading). The orders are dated 21 January 1968. Irv Carter is on the list, but he was a replacement, so there may be other replacements on the list.
A-1-6 > JB-41 - Sgt. Darrell Ackerman, from Oregon, celebrates Christmas, 1967, in the 'Nam. The guy on the left looks like William Paulino (WA), both of 1st Platoon.
