Alan Allen's wife Susan gave him this cigarette lighter (now broken) right before Company A shipped out to Vietnam on the USNS Upshur. Allen has since quite using cigarettes, and just about everything else, including whiskey, Skoal and women. The 'US' in front of Allen's military identification number indicates he was drafted. Those who joined the Army had 'RA' in front, meaning 'Regular Army'.
