Alan Allen - Souvenirs & Documents
Read MorePage 1: Lt. William 'Bill' Wendover, Platoon Leader for 1st Platoon, gave Alan Allen a copy of these orders awarding the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB) to a group from Company A. He evidently used the two pages to tally up what had happened to the original members of his 1st Platoon. At the top he wrote, '35 arrived in-country, 17 wounded, 2 killed' (Pumillo and Stading). The orders are dated 21 January 1968. Irv Carter is on the list, but he was a replacement, so there may be other replacements on the list.

on November 2, 2008Yes there were replacments on these CIB orders. First Platoon A Co. was the last Platoon to earn the CIB in A Co. It happened out West in the RZ before Christmas. That Damn infusion program started taking us apart in the first 30 days in country. There are names of new guys to the plt. and names of guys that weren't with us within weeks, both appear on these orders. The minute I learned of infusion I knew we were not ever going home as a unit that came over together. KIA, WIA were bad but the next worst thing was splitting up a well trained bunch of soldiers that all had different dates for getting out of the service. There was no reason for in First Plt, but to no avail it was the Army way. It was the hardest thing I ever had to due in the Army. Top helped me to come up with the names of those I had to let go and believe me there were times I could not do it and created headaches for Top. How many of you severed a full year in Nam, Gary Caneva went home when I did who else? My beef is that they should have kept us together because we had it together.
