Read MoreGC-33: On left is Sgt. Edward James "Bogie" Boggess (ID), KIA 29 Dec 68, friendly fire. Bogie is looking at Bill "Speed" Palmer. Bogie and Speed joined the Gunfighters around the same time, right after Lo Giang(1) on 2-8-68, and bunked together for a couple of months. Speed transferred out with Irving Carter July 1, 1968. Speed says Bogie had received from home some spices to add to the c-rations. He carried those spices everyday, and shared them with us every night.
Says Speed, "It appears I am reading a book. We used to listen to Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit". Well, one time Alan Allen said that the author of 'Alice in Wonderland,' Lewis Carroll, must have been a 'stoner.' Who else could conceive of a white rabbit running around in top hat and tails, looking at a watch and saying 'I'm late, I'm late.' I immediately sent home a request for the book. I remember reading a page or two, ripping them out of the book and passing them along. We would keep the pages in our helmet liners."
